Bummer was founded by Sulay Lavsi in the year 2020. Sulay has been keeping a close watch on the undergarment industry since 2018. According to Sulay, in 2018, the only category that was Undisrupted was undergarments.

Bummer was launched in Ahmedabad, Gujrat, with the goal of making comfortable underwear that was also stylish. Sulay belonged to a textile background. His family had already been in the textile business for decades, and from here, he developed an interest in the industry. During his days in the United States of America, he learned tailoring and pursued the manufacturing of garments.

In 2023, Bummer multiplied its sales by a whopping 12 times compared to 2020. Sulay was featured in the Forbes 30 under 30 Asia 2023 list due to the massive growth of Bummer.

Sulay did his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) from 2012-2015. He completed his Master’s in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from USC Marshall School of Business between 2017-2018. Information regarding his schooling is unknown.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Sulay was a Program Officer at Ahmedabad-based Fintech Company, Infibeam Avenues, from June 2015 to June 2016. Infibeam Avenues, he joined Indie Source, a fashion consultancy in the Greater Los Angeles Area, as a Production Assistant from June 2018 to September 2018.

After leaving Indie Source, he started working on Bummer. He is currently the CEO of Bummer.

The main objective of Sulay in starting Bummer was to make and sell different types of underwear. Hence, all the underwear made in his company are fancy and stylish to attract the youth. According to his LinkedIn profile, “We are solving for India’s 200M+ digital millennials who have chosen fashion/style in all forms of their clothing EXCEPT underwear.”

The reason behind the immense success of Bummer was that it started making underwear of different designs and colours. Success was inevitable as Bummer was the first to tap the Fancy undergarment space, a space where no other brand was interested.

Bummer makes underwear for both men and women. Their products include boxers, bralettes and pyjamas. These are made from micromodal fabric that the company claims to be breathable and eco-friendly at the same time.

Sulay got a chance to represent Bummer in India’s famous business show Shark Tank India, which he did not let go unnoticed. Everyone saw him and Bummer in Shark Tank India Season 1. That season, Sulay raised funding for his business of Rs 75 lakh.

After seeing Sulay’s potential and his business Bummer, judges Aman Gupta and Namita Thapar on the show Shark Tank India gave him funding of Rs 75 lakh and became a part of Bummer.

After the success of the brand in Shark Tank, India, the Ahmedabad-based startup garnered a total of $850,000 or Rs 7 crores, in funding from investors such as Beenext Asia Fund and Fluid Ventures.

When Sulay Lavsi started Bummer, he was earning Rs 60 lakh every year initially, but after Shark Tank India, Bummer grew rapidly by the end of 2023. He has made sales worth Rs 11 crore.

Due to the growth, Sulay is earning Rs 2 crore per month through Bummer. Sulay did not limit Bummer only to underwear. He has also included many other products in Bummer, like – Shorts, t-shirts, pyjamas, etc. With the addition of multiple new products to his company’s portfolio, Bummer continues to grow even faster.
