Eggs were first harvested as food in Southeast Asia from 1500 BCE. Apart from Duck and Ostrich eggs, chicken Eggs are the most consumed.

In 1996 the International Egg Commission established World Egg Day to promote the significance of eggs in human nutrition

World Egg Day 2023 is an annual opportunity to promote eggs as a rich source of high-quality protein, essential vitamins and minerals.

The main reason eggs are popular is because of their relatively low cost, a very rich source of high-quality protein, essential vitamins and minerals

Eggs are also very easy to produce and require fewer resources compared to other sources of protein.

Only 50% of the protein in a raw egg can be digested whereas, almost 90% of proteins can be digested in a boiled egg.

Andhra Pradesh is the largest producer of eggs in India. East Godavari, Krishna, and West Godavari districts are known for their production capacity.
